Banks face heightened cyclical buffers as ECB sounds debt-stability warning

( November 20, 2019, 09:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU banks face extra countercyclical buffers, as the European Central Bank said discretionary protections worth up to 2 percent of assets could cool credit in countries seeing a surge in indebtedness. In a financial stability report, the ECB also said funds should be forced to develop extra liquidity-management tools to more closely align redemption terms with the liquidity of underlying assets. The ECB also said insurers could be required to hold an explicitly defined liquidity buffer given heightened risks, and welcomed proposals for greater reporting.Statement follows.
