EU to outline Irish 'backstop' in absence of British solutions

Such a step is necessary after the UK government failed to submit plans for its preferred option: a trade agreement that prevents the emergence of customs infrastructure.The British government has failed to submit ideas on how to prevent a hard border in Northern Ireland, EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier said. For that reason, the EU tomorrow will unveil the draft legal text for a backstop plan, disliked by the UK, that would keep the province in “regulatory alignment” with the island of Ireland after Brexit....
