EU negotiators should respect fundamental rights in e-evidence bill, privacy groups say

( June 7, 2021, 16:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Advocacy group European Digital Rights, along with a coalition of 25 organizations and companies, have urged the European Parliament and EU governments to "uphold a high level of procedural safeguards in their negotiations for the e-evidence Regulation." The groups want EU negotiators to protect media freedoms and democratic rights from "abusive" cross-border e-evidence orders. These should require the involvement of the judicial authority in which an Internet provider is based and the authority where the person whose data is being requested resides, when that country is different from the requesting country, the group said.Statement follows....
