Committee of European Banking Supervisors Statement: CEBS today publishes its guidelines on the revised large exposures regime

( December 11, 2009, 17:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: European Union regulators will require that any exposure exceeding 2 percent of a bank's capital base -- up from 1 percent, proposed in June -- must undergo an "intensive process" to determine if it is under common control or economically connected with other debtors at the bank. CEBS eased requirements for considering underlying assets in structured finance. The guidelines implement an EU law that banks can't hold any single source of risk amounting to 25 percent of their capital.The Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS) today publishes its guidelines in relation to two specific aspects of the revised large exposures regime that has been included in the amended Capital Requirements Directive (CRD). The amendments will have to be transposed into Member States’ national law by 31 October 2010 and will be applied from 31 December 2010....
