​​Global capital ‘floor’ will hurt EU banks, raise requirements, Dombrovskis says

( September 29, 2016, 10:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Europe's banks would be put at a disadvantage by a global push for more standardized capital standards, because this "would imply significant capital requirement increases," said Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission chief for financial services. The global standards don't need a common "floor" for the risk values plugged into the capital formulas, he said. Uncertainty over Brexit might hamper long-term investment and growth, he added. The EU executive also is monitoring financial technology, and is in no rush to propose legislation, he said.The following is the text of the prepared remarks, as published by the European Commission....
