US patent office, DOJ urged by senators to devise joint standard-essential patent guidance

( October 21, 2019, 23:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Patent and Trademark Office and Department of Justice were encouraged by a pair of US Senators to develop joint guidance on remedies for infringement of standard-essential patents subject to fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory licensing commitments. In a letter to the DOJ, Republican Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Democrat Chris Coons of Delaware applauded the agency's decision to withdraw from a 2013 joint statement with the PTO on SEPs subject to Frand commitments, but said stakeholders have expressed concerns about a growing divide between the DOJ, US Federal Trade Commission and PTO over the role antitrust law should play in the area.See document below....
