Samsung chief Jay Y. Lee and other executives receive presidential pardon in South Korea

( August 12, 2022, 04:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Jay Y. Lee, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, and three other executives of South Korean conglomerates, including Lotte chairman Shin Dong-bin, Chang Sae-joo, CEO of Dongkuk Steel Mill and former STX Group chairman Kang Deok-su, received a special presidential pardon today, the Justice Ministry said. Samsung chief Lee had been convicted of bribery and embezzlement and sentenced to 30 months in jail last year but was released on parole in August after serving 18 months in jail. Lee was barred from working at public institutions and corporates related to the conviction for five years under domestic law even after finishing his prison sentence.
