UK’s new bank-capital rules will enable smaller lenders to compete, BOE says

By Fiona Maxwell ( February 27, 2023, 13:52 GMT | Insight) -- New bank-capital rules in the UK are an example of how competitiveness is being achieved, the Bank of England's executive director for prudential regulation said today, as a gap in capital requirements for larger and smaller mortgage lenders has significantly narrowed. The regulator also published proposals for simpler-regime banks, allowing them to benefit from lighter liquidity and remuneration rules.Smaller lenders will be able to compete with their larger counterparts thanks to new bank-capital rules, which shows how the Bank of England is “already leveling the playing field,” a senior official said today....
