Lawyer Joseph Longo appointed to head Australian markets regulator

( April 29, 2021, 03:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australian corporate lawyer Joseph Longo has been appointed as the new head of Australia’s markets regulator, replacing outgoing chairman James Shipton. In announcing the appointment to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission today, Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said Longo has had a long and distinguished career as a corporate lawyer and is a former director of enforcement with ASIC. Longo is currently a senior adviser at law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and has previously worked as general counsel for Deutsche Bank in London and Hong Kong for 17 years. Frydenberg also announced the establishment of the Financial Regulator Assessment Authority, designed to assess the effectiveness of both ASIC and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.
