​The public needs to trust the technology it uses, Australia's new privacy minister says

( June 2, 2019, 23:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Securing the data of Australian citizens and fostering innovation in artificial intelligence are at the top of the agenda for the country's new Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Karen Andrews. In an address to think tank ADC Forum, Andrews spoke of the public's need to trust the technologies its is using and of plans to develop a code of ethics around artificial intelligence development. Andrews added that when an upcoming competition-regulator report on digital platforms is published later this month, the government will look at consumer choice and technological change in the advertising and media industries. Andrews said the government will soon introduce legislation to parliament as part of a revamp of data rights, giving customers access to their data and the right to move it more easily between providers of services including banking. An Australian National Data Commissioner will oversee Australia’s new data sharing plans, with an aim of improving data privacy and security, Andrews said.Find the speech attached in full below. ...
