UK government questioned over relations with EU's VAT area after Brexit

( January 9, 2018, 13:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Nicky Morgan, Chair of the Treasury Committee in the UK parliament, has asked the government to evaluate the cost to business of new legislation under debate, which she said could "force firms to pay VAT upfront on goods imported from the EU." The British Retail Consortium, an industry group, has said changes in the Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Bill could cause "additional cashflow burdens" and problems at borders and ports.
