GE Capital ordered to refund $34 million to credit-card customers in medical, dental offices

( December 10, 2013, 20:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: GE Capital and its CareCredit unit were ordered to refund up to $34.1 million to about 1.2 million credit-card customers who may have been misled when they enrolled at medical and dental offices, said Richard Cordray, head of the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The agency will continue to monitor so-called deferred interest products, for which some CareCredit customers were charged 27 percent interest retroactively after a promotional period.  Statement follows in full.
