SEC's Democrats fault other commissioners for granting Oppenheimer 'bad actor' waiver

( February 4, 2015, 23:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Securities and Exchange Commissioners Luis Aguilar and Kara Stein, both Democrats, issued a dissent on Wednesday from the SEC’s decision to grant Oppenheimer a regulatory waiver last week despite a recent $20 million penalty against the brokerage for allowing illegal penny stock sales. The waiver, which companies apply for, means that Oppenheimer can engage in certain financial activities despite breaking a securities law. "The facts demonstrate that Oppenheimer has a failed compliance culture, from top to bottom," Aguilar and Stein wrote.Statement follows in full....
