​ECB's Nouy backs power to halt wobbling banks' payments

( August 25, 2017, 14:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Central Bank's top supervisor threw her weight behind plans to give authorities the power to stop wobbling banks from making payments, while assessing their viability. Danièle Nouy said in a letter to the European Parliament that a "moratorium tool" would give authorities more flexibility to react when a bank's situation "deteriorates rapidly." The possibility of suspending payments prior to resolution is one of the key changes proposed by the European Commission to strengthen the EU's bank-crisis management tools. The ECB will take a position in a forthcoming paper.The letter is attached....
