‘Order flow’ payments can be allowed on national basis, EU countries agree

( December 20, 2022, 09:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: “Order flow” payments should be restricted in the EU, but they can be allowed on a national basis, EU countries have agreed in a political deal on the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation and Directive. The deal means countries can begin negotiating with the European Parliament for the final rules once the body agrees its stance. The compromise over kickbacks breaks a months-long deadlock among countries, but stops short of fully banning the practice as the European Commission proposed. The “consolidated tape” of public trading information should have “reliable consolidated data close-to-real time,” countries agreed.Statement follows. Documents attached....
