ASEAN to push for tariff elimination on 92 percent of goods in RCEP agreement

The proposal will be negotiated and voted on before it is presented at the September Leaders Summit. RCEP countries had previously agreed on immediate tariff elimination on 65 percent of goods, with staggered reductions on the remainder over the ensuing decade. Members will also negotiate on liberalization of the service sector and a suite of rules governing intellectual property rights, trade facilitation, e-commerce, finance, telecoms, sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures, rules of origin, customs procedures and technical barriers.    ...
