UK-Switzerland trade agreement ‘differs significantly’ from existing EU-Swiss deal

( March 13, 2019, 15:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Attention has been drawn to the new UK-Switzerland trade agreement, which is meant to replicate the existing EU-Swiss arrangements after Brexit, over concerns regarding substantial differences between the new agreement and its replacement. One major concern of the House of Lords EU Committee is that most trade in services — which accounts for about 52 percent of all UK-Swiss trade — is not covered under the new deal. The UK-Swiss deal could also put limits on the export of agricultural products from the UK to Switzerland, and would mean UK businesses losing access to benefits such as fewer controls at the Swiss border.Statement follows.
