( March 31, 2022, 05:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s top foreign-investment official and former spymaster and diplomat, David Irvine, has died, the government has revealed. In a press release published today, Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said he was saddened by the news. Irvine had been the chair of Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board and had been appointed to a five-year term in December 2017, with his term renewed for a further two years in December 2021. As a former head of the Australian Security Intelligence Organization, Irvine’s appointment to FIRB was seen as reflecting the government’s growing concern over the strategic and geo-political implications of foreign investment in the country, in particular when it involved sensitive or essential industries. Irvine was 75 and died of an undisclosed illness. The full statement by Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg follows: ...
