Shadow banking posing systemic threat reaches $51.6 trillion in 2017, FSB says

( February 4, 2019, 17:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Non-bank financial intermediation, or shadow banking, that poses bank-like systemic risks grew 8.5 percent to $51.6 trillion in 2017, according to a report from the Financial Stability Board. Its share of total global financial assets is now 14 percent. “Non-bank financing is a valuable alternative to bank financing for many firms and households,” FSB Chair Randal Quarles said. “Of course, when it involves maturity or liquidity transformation, or leverage like banks, it may have effects on financial stability both directly and through its linkages with the banking system.”Statement follows in full. ...
