Former security engineer pleads guilty to hacking decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges, agrees to forfeit $12.3 million

( December 14, 2023, 17:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shakeeb Ahmed, a former security engineer for a technology company, pleaded guilty to hacking two decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges, the US Department of Justice said. He laundered the millions he stole from the cryptocurrency exchanges using sophisticated techniques, prosecutors said. Ahmed also agreed to forfeit more than $12.3 million, including forfeiture of approximately $5.6 million in fraudulently obtained cryptocurrency. The plea is the first public filing acknowledging Ahmed's responsibility for a second sophisticated, multi-million dollar hack he executed in July 2022, of the decentralized finance protocol Nirvana Finance, prosecutors said..Statement follows below:...
