​Huawei is barred from New Zealand's 5G roll-out, as spy agency cites security concerns

( November 29, 2018, 04:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand’s top intelligence agency has banned Chinese telecommunications company Huawei from supplying equipment as part of the planned 5G infrastructure rollout. New Zealand’s Spark Telecom has said in a statement to the country’ stock exchange that the Government Communications Security Bureau had decided to bar Huawei from participating in its 5G rollout, as a result of security concerns. In media interviews, the head of the GCSB, Andrew Hampton, suggested the decision hadn’t been the result of international pressure to keep Huawei out of 5G infrastructure development.
