CFPB fines two Oklahoma law firms for misrepresenting attorney involvement in medical debt collection

( January 9, 2017, 19:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau fined two medical debt-collection law firms and their president for engaging in illegal debt collection practices. Harry A. Lentz Jr. and his firms Works and Lentz Inc. and Works and Lentz of Tulsa Inc. falsely represented that lawyers were involved in a debt collection action, failed to ensure the accuracy of consumer information they furnished to credit reporting companies, and used improperly notarized affidavits in lawsuits filed against consumers. The CFPB ordered the firms and their president to correct their business practices, provide $577,135 in relief to harmed consumers, and pay a $78,800 penalty.Statement follows.
