Amendments to Malaysia’s securities laws come into force

( September 23, 2015, 04:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Securities Commission Malaysia announced that amendments to its securities laws, which include enhanced investor protection and expands regulatory and supervisory powers, are now in effect. Minority shareholders now have improved protection in relation to takeovers and mergers transactions by empowering the SC to appoint independent advisers, and the SC’s examination powers have been expanded to cover persons performing outsourced functions for regulated entities, including branches and subsidiaries. The amendments also extend the Audit Oversight Board’s regulatory reach to capital market institutions, scheduled funds, and reporting accountants. It also facilitates the establishment of innovative fundraising structures such as equity crowdfunding platforms.  ...
