Highly ranked investment adviser charged with fraud

( September 9, 2015, 20:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday charged Dawn Bennett, a Maryland-based investment adviser, and her financial services firm, Bennett Group Financial, with fraud for overstating the amount of managed assets and exaggerating the returns for customers. The SEC alleges that Bennett, who was ranked fifth on Barron's list of top 100 women advisers in 2009, and her firm claimed to manage more than $2 billion in assets when the real number was no more than about $407 million. The agency also said Bennett falsely claimed the amount of managed assets during 18 Washington, DC-area radio shows she hosted in 2010 and 2011.Statement follows in full. Also see document below....
