China's top legislature flags AI law research, road traffic revisions for 2026 agenda

( March 9, 2026, 04:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s top legislature will step up research on artificial intelligence-related legislation and revise the Road Traffic Safety Law and the Price Law in 2026, Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, said in a work report delivered Monday to the annual session of the 14th NPC. He said the top legislature plans to formulate a financial law, a financial stability law, a law on procuratorate-initiated public-interest litigation and an Anti–Transnational Corruption Law this year. Over the past year, the NPC reviewed 40 legislative proposals and adopted 24 — including six new laws and 14 amendments — and approved nine treaties and major agreements, Zhao added. Excerpts of the statement (in Chinese). ...
