US GAO recommends agencies simplify bank regulatory reviews

( July 23, 2026, 17:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Government Accountability Office released a report finding that certain changes to bank regulatory reviews are needed to better identify and address "unnecessary or unduly burdensome" requirements. GAO made six recommendations, specifically that each federal banking agency should implement procedures for identifying "outdated, unnecessary, or unduly burdensome" regulations and taking actions to address them during their reviews and incorporate into those reviews a framework for prioritizing rules for retrospective analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and assessment of cumulative regulatory burden.See attached files. ...
