Only smaller EU battery, packaging producers to get simpler rules, lawmakers say
( October 6, 2026, 10:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Large EU-based companies placing batteries, packaging, textiles, footwear, electronics and single-use plastics on the market would still need to appoint an authorized representative for "extended producer responsibility" in each EU member state, according to a vote by the European Parliament's Environment Committee on Monday. That means they are responsible for the collection and recycling of their products. Lawmakers want a suspension of the need for an authorized representative limited to small and medium-sized companies and lifted once the EU's Circularity Act enters into force. The European Commission had proposed a complete suspension until 2035 for all EU-based companies.Press release follows....
