Indonesia, Australia review free-trade pact, flag digital trade, critical minerals

( September 8, 2026, 05:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia and Australia have started a general review of their bilateral free-trade agreement, with digital trade, critical minerals, environmental issues and food security among areas identified for possible further cooperation. The Indonesian Ministry of Trade said on Monday that the countries exchanged national reports in Canberra on Aug. 27, beginning a review of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement after its first five years. The reports will be used to identify areas where the agreement could be strengthened or modernized. Indonesia also raised its trade deficit with Australia during discussions. Indonesian exports to Australia totaled $2.1 billion from January through July, compared with imports of $6.8 billion, according to the ministry.Statement follows (in Indonesian)....
