China urges EU to drop protectionism, resolve trade tensions through dialogue

( April 9, 2026, 08:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Ministry of Commerce urged the EU to resolve trade frictions through dialogue and abandon protectionist measures, spokesperson He Yadong said at a regular press briefing Thursday. Responding to a media question on the direction of China-EU trade ties, He said China remains open to negotiating bilateral trade arrangements and welcomes proposals from European leaders. However, he said the EU has in recent years deployed multiple trade tools to investigate and restrict Chinese companies, and has recently advanced legislative proposals such as a revised draft of the EU Cybersecurity Act and the Industrial Accelerator Act, undermining business confidence and expectations. The ministry called on the EU to heed the views of member states and industry and replace “building walls and barriers” with open cooperation.Excerpt of the transcript follows (in Chinese)....
