Section 122 tariffs are legal, US argues

( April 3, 2026, 15:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: President Donald Trump's use of Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose a global 10 percent tariff is legal because it deals with a large and serious deficit in the current account, which is one component of the balance of payments, making it a reasonable interpretation of the law, the US Department of Justice argued in a brief opposing summary judgment.
