China responds to US Section 301 probes over alleged overcapacity, forced labor

( March 13, 2026, 07:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Ministry of Commerce said Friday that the US Trade Representative’s decision to launch Section 301 investigations into 16 economies, including China, over alleged “overcapacity” is a unilateral move that undermines the international trade order, and that Washington has no authority to make unilateral determinations or impose trade restrictions. In a statement, the ministry said it is also assessing a separate Section 301 probe targeting 60 economies, including China, over an alleged failure to prohibit imports made with forced labor. China urged the US to correct its “erroneous practices” and return to resolving issues through dialogue and consultation, adding that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its legitimate rights and interests.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
