China flags concerns over EU Industrial Accelerator Act, calls measures protectionist

( March 9, 2026, 08:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Ministry of Commerce said Friday that the EU’s “Industrial Accelerator Act,” released March 4, amounts to protectionism and raises serious concerns for Beijing. In a statement, the ministry said the proposal would impose discriminatory restrictions on foreign investors in batteries, electric vehicles, photovoltaics and critical raw materials. The measures would apply to third-country investors accounting for more than 40 percent of global capacity in those sectors and would introduce a "Made in the EU first" principle in public procurement, it said. China argued the plan could breach World Trade Organization rules, undermine fair competition and disrupt global supply chains. The ministry said it would closely monitor the legislative process and safeguard the legitimate rights of Chinese companies.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
