US sets out exemptions for heavy-duty vehicle tariffs

( January 30, 2026, 16:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Commerce Department opened a documentation request for importers of medium and heavy duty vehicles to apply for exemptions from 25 percent Section 232 tariffs only on the US content of a subject import. Those exemptions are only available for qualifying imports under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Commerce requested importers document the type and value of US content for each model and said eligibility determinations issued in 2026 are valid only for imported vehicles in 2025 and 2026, with 2027 importation requests requiring documentation by Oct. 1 of this year.Public inspection notice in the Federal Register attached....
