China opposes planned US semiconductor tariffs, warns of countermeasures

( December 24, 2025, 08:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s foreign ministry said Wednesday that Beijing opposes a US plan to impose additional tariffs on China’s semiconductor industry from June 2027, calling the move an unreasonable use of trade measures to suppress Chinese industries. It warned the plan would disrupt global supply chains and harm the sector’s development worldwide. Responding to a media inquiry at a regular press briefing, foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian urged the US to correct what he described as a misguided approach and to address differences through dialogue based on equality, respect and mutual benefit, in line with understandings reached by the two countries’ leaders.
