USTR modifies duty-free sugar imports for several countries

( December 17, 2025, 16:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The office of the US Trade Representative modified the eligibility of several mostly Latin American countries to receive duty-free sugar imports into the US market. A country’s trade surplus for sugar and syrup goods and sugar-containing products relates to how much duty-free goods they will get next year. Chile, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Panama and Morocco had negative trade surpluses, so they are not eligible for duty-free treatment in 2026. Next year, the following countries get duty-free treatment based on metric tons: Costa Rica at 15,400; El Salvador at 40,120; Guatemela at 55,460; Honduras at 11,200; Nicaragua at 30,800 and Columbia at 60,500 metric tons.See attached file....
