Key initiatives are making 'good progress,' chair of ASEAN economic ministers says

( September 29, 2025, 00:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The chair of the ASEAN Economic Ministers, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, announced Friday that "good progress" in being made on the implementation of the key initiatives of Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN, which include the full completion of the Joint Declaration on Economic Cooperation between ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council. He also said negotiations on the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement are expected to achieve a substantial conclusion in 2026. ASEAN ministers also look forward to the launch of the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Area Upgrade negotiations soon, he said at the closing press conference for the ministerial meeting in Kuala Lumpur.The statement is attached....
