US releases framework for trade deal with Japan

( September 4, 2025, 21:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The White House released the framework for a trade deal reached with Japan in July. The deal affirms that Japan will pay a 15 percent tariff rate on goods entering the US market, including for automobiles and car parts, aerospace products, generic pharmaceuticals and natural resources not available in the US. According to the release, Japan in return agreed to a 75 percent increase of US rice procurements and purchases of agricultural goods and other products for a total of $8 billion per year. Japan has also agreed to accept US-made cars without additional testing, buy American aircraft and defense equipment, and invest $550 billion in the US.Full statement follows:...
