Curb aluminum scrap exports save EU recycling sector, lobby group urges

The commission has activated customs surveillance of scrap flows, and will assess by September whether trade measures are needed. “We only have weeks to get this right,” Paul Voss, director-general of European Aluminium, told MLex today, insisting that only a “horizontal export measure” can prevent scrap leakage and protect the bloc’s recycling capacity.Supplies of EU aluminum scrap are draining away to the US and Asia, leaving the bloc’s recyclers short of raw material and forcing plants to cut capacity, a lobby group has said....
