Trump raises US tariffs on Canada to 35 percent

( July 31, 2025, 23:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: US President Donald Trump today signed an executive order raising the tariff rate on Canada to 35 percent, up from 25 percent, effective Aug. 1, with exemptions for USMCA-compliant goods still in effect. Trump said any goods transshipped to avoid the tariffs will be subject instead to a 40 percent rate.
