EU takes Algeria to arbitration over trade and investment barriers

( July 16, 2025, 10:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU has requested arbitration against Algeria under their Association Agreement, as recent Algerian “trade and investment restrictions” breach the deal and harm EU exporters, the European Commission said today. The move follows failed consultations in June and includes EU complaints on import licensing systems “virtually equivalent to an import ban,” as well as restrictions such as caps on foreign ownership and burdensome registration rules for companies importing goods into Algeria. EU exports to Algeria have dropped 31 percent over the past decade amid growing market-access difficulties, the commission added.Full statement follows....
