EU lawmakers condemn China’s control over critical raw material exports

( July 10, 2025, 11:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s export restrictions on critical raw materials were condemned as “unjustified and coercive” in a motion for resolution passed today by EU lawmakers. The text, approved with 523 votes in favor, 75 against, and 14 abstentions, highlights China’s “quasi-monopolistic position” in controlling supply chains vital to the automotive, defense, and semiconductor industries, among others. Lawmakers are calling on the European Commission to speed up the implementation of the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act. This would activate domestic mining projects and assess the minimum strategic stock levels of rare earth elements to reduce the risk of potential shortages.Full statement follows....
