E-commerce imports need bulk processing, handling fee, EU lawmakers' report says

( July 9, 2025, 11:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: E-commerce platforms should group goods shipped into the EU and process them at warehouses, rather than sending parcels individually, in order to improve product safety checks, according to a report adopted by the European Parliament today. The report, endorsed by a broad majority of 619 lawmakers, also backs the introduction of a handling fee of 2 euros to boost the revenue of national customs authorities and help them cope with a recent surge in cross-border parcels. The own-initiative report is not binding but could influence the Parliament's stance in negotiations with member states on EU customs reform, which started yesterday.Full statement follows....
