EU customs reform enters final stretch with rush to get new agencies in action

Dutch lawmaker Dirk Gotink, the European Parliament’s lead negotiator, told MLex in an interview that he wants early progress on the planned EU Customs Authority and Data Hub, the two key bodies outlined in the package, highlighting a need for stronger border controls and aligned penalties.EU lawmakers and governments begin final talks today on a rewrite of the bloc’s customs rules — the biggest overhaul since 1968 — with a year-end deadline looming and key policy debates still unresolved....
