New tariffs on agri goods from Belarus, Russia backed by EU trade committee

( May 15, 2025, 13:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Imports of agricultural goods from Belarus and Russia that are still excluded from other customs duties — such as flour, sugar, animal feed and vinegar — will see a 50-percent rise in tariffs, under a draft European Commission proposal that received backing today from the European Parliament's International Trade Committee. The approved text also provides for a 6.5 percent tariff on fertilizers imported from Belarus and Russia, alongside up to 430 euros in duties per ton by 2028. The measures are intended to significantly reduce imports of the goods exported directly or indirectly from Belarus and Russia, to boost EU fertilizer production, and to further reduce EU dependency. The draft regulation will be put to a vote at the next plenary session on May 22. Statement follows. ...
