US tariff hikes have 'limited impact' on Hong Kong trade, official says

( March 27, 2025, 04:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US decision to impose 20 percent additional tariffs on Hong Kong products is expected to have a "limited impact" on the city's trade, Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bernard Chan said in a statement to the Legislative Council. Chan said exports to the US accounted for only 0.1 percent of Hong Kong's total exports and 0.06 percent of its overall trade last year. He said Hong Kong enterprises have reintegrated supply chains and explored emerging markets and e-commerce to mitigate the adverse effects. Chan also said the government is mapping out the strategy for its planned complaint about the tariff hikes to the World Trade Organization, though such disputes typically take years to resolve depending on case complexity and consultation outcomes between parties.The statement follow:...
