US steel tariffs are a direct threat to EU’s sovereignty, Eurofer warns

( March 12, 2025, 11:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US tariffs on steel imports could be “a final nail in the coffin of the European steel industry” if the EU does not respond with an effective revision of the bloc’s safeguard measures, the EU steel lobby said today. Eurofer president Henrik Adam said that the new 25 percent US tariffs would have a greater impact than those imposed in 2018, because exemptions and tariff rate quotas aren't included this time. A new steel safeguard measure will be needed to counter not only the tariffs but also global overcapacity, Adam said.Full statement follows....
