EU targets US exports worth up to 26 billion euros with retaliatory tariffs

By Joanna Sopinska ( March 12, 2025, 11:33 GMT | Insight) -- The US exports worth up to 26 billion euros will soon face EU retaliatory tariffs which the bloc is planning to impose in response to the US steel and aluminum tariffs, the European Commission said today. The retaliation will come in two stages, with the first package of measures to kick in on April 1 and the second on April 13. With this strong response, the EU is hoping to force the US to the negotiating table to avoid further escalation.US producers will see tariffs from 2018 on their exports to the EU worth more than 4.5 billion euros ($4.9 billion) reimposed as of April 1 as part of the bloc’s retaliation against US steel and aluminum tariffs, the European Commission said today....
