Japan asks Google, Meta, TikTok, others to tighten anti-fraud measures

( August 7, 2026, 06:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s police, digital, financial, telecom and consumer authorities jointly called on five major social-media operators, including Google, Meta Platforms and X, to strengthen measures against fraudulent investment ads that use deepfakes to impersonate celebrities. Citing growing losses from such scams, the authorities asked the social-media operators, which also include LY Corp. and TikTok Japan, to strengthen advertiser-identity checks, promptly remove fraudulent impersonation ads when requested, and improve advertising transparency for consumers.
