China cracks down on online accounts undermining business, entrepreneurs

( August 4, 2026, 08:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China's central cyberspace regulator on Tuesday said it has taken enforcement action against a series of accounts accused of infringing on the legal rights of businesses and entrepreneurs, acting on leads from relevant authorities and local cyberspace offices. This action comes on the heels of a recent campaign titled "Clear and Optimize the Business Internet Environment to Curb Malicious Business Information Hyping," targeting the spread of harmful content. The regulator disclosed four key cases: accounts on platforms such as Sina Weibo, Douyin, RedNote, and WeChat were found posting false information to malign the auto industry, disrupt corporate operations during crucial financial events, extort businesses after releasing false information and degrade product quality through fabricated reviews.
