ChatGPT, Gemini need stronger electoral prompt safeguards, EU campaigners say

The campaign group tested how the AI systems responded to structured prompts during the 2026 Hungarian election and found the servers frequently offered "unreliable" and "inconsistent" guidance. General-purpose AI systems should therefore be categorized as very large online search systems under the EU's Digital Services Act, the report said, to ensure "equal regulatory treatment."
